• How are we serving String Sprouts?

We will be preparing class materials for String Sprouts--filling each tiny bag with eight colorful bingo chips. We have hundreds of bags to prepare! Each one of our String Sprouts gets these at the beginning of the year. They use them for Rhythm Bingo, Note Bingo, and to show where music notes go on the staff.

  • What ages can help out with this task?

The task is designed for preschoolers and their caregivers, but we're delighted to welcome MLK Day of Service volunteers of all ages! Parents and older siblings can help kids who are still learning to count to eight. This will be a great volunteer opportunity for kids who are learning colors and numbers.

  • Where and when is the event located?

The Omaha Conservatory of Music is located at 7023 Cass Street. Parking is free and plentiful. You can enter our building through the main doors (on the south side, under the canopy) or through the Myrtle & Cypress Coffee House (on the west side, up the stairs to the patio). Then stop at the front desk!

Our MLK Day of Service event will run from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM on Monday, January 20th. When you register, you'll sign up for a time so we can be appropriately staffed.

  • What is String Sprouts, anyway?

Kids who begin their relationship with music early develop stronger language proficiency, better hand-eye coordination, increased problem-solving skills, and more. These advantages help kids excel academically and socially, setting them up for a lifetime of success.

String Sprouts is an innovative curriculum designed for kids as young as 3 years and their caregivers to learn violin or cello together, along with other kids! Weekly classes run from September to May in locations around the Omaha metro area. The annual tuition is on a sliding scale that starts at $0, so anyone can participate, and instruments and class materials are included in that cost!

Registration for fall 2025 begins in April. To be notified when the online application is open, click the APPLY NOW button at the top right on this page.
